Song Lists: Mr Mister

This was one of the first batch I ever did and should have been up long before now. It was probably the first in which I also paid more attention to the key shifts taking place and also the one which birthed the unique couple of dark blue/yellow – it took days to realise following my frustration of how Something Real could be dark blue yet warm. It’s fair to say the musicality of the Misters is staggering in its complexity hence the difficulty in piecing it together. Along with the white/pale pink of some of the PULL tracks, many have proven tricky to navigate through the fluidity of the music. They are also unique in that orange is mostly only used as a key change as opposed an actual track being orange right the way through, only Uniform of Youth achieves this. Anyway, I hope this is both interesting and thought provoking.

WHITE

PARTNERS IN CRIME (Steve G’s verse keys and the bridge in pale pink, chorus in white)
POWER OVER ME (first half verse and chorus in white with the latter half in yellow)
MAN OF A THOUSAND DANCES (intro orange, burgandy chorus burgandy – similar to Lifetime. Steve F’s guitar solo goes from white, through grey before skilfully reaching the song’s concluding key shift back to orange)
EVER SLOWLY (LEARNING TO CRAWL)(‘warm flashing of light’ parts in green It gets even more complex in the ‘learning to..’ being grey with the ‘crawl’ being white. As with no-one below, some pale pink surfaces in the sitar toward the end)
WE BELONG TO NO-ONE (middle guitar part in pale blue some pale pink in the synth layering toward the end)
SILENTLY/QUIETLY (NO WORDS TO SAY)(verses, bridge – deep red chorus orange)

MINT GREEN

THE TUBE (intro and verses, the rest in black)

YELLOW

HUNTERS OF THE NIGHT (Steve G’s keyboard part at 0.15secs and middle section in green)
I’LL LET YOU DRIVE (latter part is a grey blue)
BLACK/WHITE (chorus blue/yellow)
RUN TO HER
LIKE RAIN FALLING (I DON’T KNOW WHY)(part of this is in deep red and blue/yellow toward the end)

ORANGE

UNIFORM OF YOUTH

RED (different shades)

RUNAWAY
TALK THE TALK (chorus in orange)
WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD (bridge in orange chorus in blue/orange)
STAND AND DELIVER (verses red, chorus not sure; either yellow or orange while Richard and Steve F’s solos are in mid-blue)

LIGHT BLUE

WAITING IN MY DREAMS

MID BLUE

THE BORDER

DARK BLUE

I WEAR THE FACE (verses)
CLOSE YOUR EYES

DARK BLUE/YELLOW

*This occurs when one instrument plays in one key and another plays a different one, thus in this case (and the blue/orange below) it is possible to have a warm dark blue!

SOMETHING REAL (bridge is in yellow and middle synth/bass part in red)
CONTROL
HEALING WATERS (chorus and middle section in orange, bridge in crimson  or dark green the pitch is very difficult to tell on this one!)

DARK BLUE/ORANGE

TANGENT TEARS

LIGHT GREEN

DARK GREEN

PALE PINK

IS IT LOVE? (intro and verses are in pale pink but the chorus is in mint green and don’t ask what the middle section is, except for Steve G’s keyboard stabs which are in dark green)

PINK

KYRIE (key change for latter part of the song is warm red)
WATCHING THE WORLD (bridge in brown)
CRAZY BOY (‘leave a light on’ lines may be in light blue or apricot, middle part in grey)

CRIMSON

WAIT A LIFETIME (verses, chorus the same save for the key shift to orange for the final ‘I’d wait a lifetime’ before the switch back to crimson. On the tail-piece, the crimson is replaced by orange and the key shift for the final ‘..lifetime’ is to blue which in turn returns to orange for the fade out)

VIOLET

LIFE GOES ON (chorus)

PURPLE

32 (intro in grey, verse in purple, chorus in pale blue)

GREY (varying shades)

I GET LOST SOMETIMES
DON’T SLOW DOWN (intro and chorus, verse parts in an odd hue of rose/red)
INTO MY OWN HANDS (intro, chorus and outro blue, verse parts a similar half-tone to Don’t Slow Down above)
BROKEN WINGS (It might be famous but it’s more complex than you might think! Intro and verse parts in grey blue, chorus in dark green or dark blue – again pitch borderline on this one, middle section and ending in light blue/orange)
AWAYA

BROWN

BURNING BRIDGE (possibly an ochre colour – very close correlation with warm grey)

BLACK

THE TUBE (chorus, middle part and outro)
