Song Lists: Boom Crash Opera

One of the good things about being my own editor is to write about the music that matters most to me and in the case of so many of my faves, artists who never get the attention they deserve. In 1988 I heard a song called Great Wall by a band from Australia (I had a particular penchant for things coming out of Australia). There was no reason why they shouldn’t have followed Icehouse and INXS into the Billboard top 40 but alas success eluded them. None the less, this year marks their 30th birthday as well as the 20th anniversary of their Born/Born Again recordings and for those who’ve read my drummers blog, Maz is also another year older around this time. Here is how the best things scan in colour! I’ve also included some of Richard Pleasance and Peter Farnan’s solo work. When I say colour I speak of base colour, so in the event a song shifts key and hence colour mid-way through I’ll list it under its base or main colour for easier reference. There are those are difficult to pigeon hole such as Axe to Grind due to its multiple shifts. I have had to battle – ironically enough from the behind the great firewall of China – on an ailing computer to get this to you, but as the band themselves would say.. where there’s a will, there’s a way! Anyway, I hope this is both interesting and thought provoking. *PS, don’t forget to check out the Icehouse and INXS lists too. Here’s hoping they’re the colours you’ve always wanted to see! Happy reading.
